No that's not inspired by that legend. It's derived from the name of a celtic goddess of horses called Epona as well.

Possibly not a coincidence. The Zelda series has taken alot of religious symbols and used them for their games in the mid 90's. They also had to change those symbols too because of lawsuits. haha
